My Top 5 List: Books to T.V. #Young Adult #Fantasy

I read a lot…then I watch a lot…

Sometimes the written word is adapted adequately enough to the small screen. I know allowances must be made for screenwriters changing or cutting out plots, even characters sometimes. Some adaptations are cheesy, or not handled as well as I would like. Others are simply disasters. Below are some of my favorites.

Book to television:

5.  The Shannara Chronicles:   $

A fantasy drama from the novels by Terry Brooks, primarily The         Elfstones of Shannara.

This one surprised me. I was hooked after the first episode. The actors captured the characters well and the story-line hooked me.

4. Shadowhunters   $ (1)

Based on The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

I’ve read the entire series by Cassandra Clare numerous times, but the television adaptation with its casting and plot changes made it all brand new for me.

3. The 100   download (1)

Loosely based on the book by Kass Morgan.

Where to begin on this one. Even the killing of Lincoln could not make me stop watching. The entire production is first rate.

2.  The Magicians   download (2)

Based on the novel by Lev Grossman

The show has done well in veering off the text of novel and has given the characters a whole new life.

1. Game of Thrones   images

Based on the series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin.

What more can one say about this series. This is the best of the best. All other series will be compared to this one for years to come.

How about you? What are your favorites?

  1. “Game of Thrones” deserves to be in the #1 spot for sure. Another one I am completely enthralled with is “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

    • Nia Markos

I had read “The Handmaid’s Tale” ages ago. For some reason I am hesitating in watching. Don’t know if its because of the subject matter, it being dark, or if I worry they don’t do the book justice. I’ll have to put my reservations aside and give it a look. I’ve heard nothing but great reviews on it.

      • I have to warn you that it is extremely addictive. 🙂 But, I haven’t read the book, so don’t know how the show compares.

      • Nia Markos

I will definitively give it a look then
