Top Box Office Smash of 1980 – The Empire Strikes Back

I watched Star Wars – A New Hope 6 times in the movie theater and was impatiently waiting for the next movie in the franchise. The Empire Strikes Back did not disappoint me, or the millions of fans who flocked to see it. The movie was the highest-grossing film of 1980 and, has earned more than $538 million worldwide since its release.

The film, set three years after A New Hope, finds the Galactic Empire led by Darth Vader and the Emperor. While Vader pursues Hans Solo and Princess Leia, Luke is training with Jedi Master Yoda on the remote planet Dagobah. When Vader captures Han and Leia, Luke must choose whether to complete his training in becoming full Jedi or to race to save his friends.

This is my favorite of the three original Star Wars movies.
