Last week, Game of Thrones treated us to a reunion tour. Fan favorites, and mine, shared screen time, all while preparing for the battle to come. I loved seeing Arya, the Hound, and Gendry interacting, but seeing her with Jon could not be matched with any other reunion the show threw at us. Sansa and Tyrion were another I couldn’t wait to see. It highlighted how far Sansa has come from the girl we met back in season one. In the back of my mind, I still wonder if those two are still considered married? (Even though they never consummated their marriage.) At the end of episode one, the long stare Bran gave Jamie upon his arrival, for a second, actually had me worrying for the kingslayer.
While I’m still trying to gather my thoughts on the second episode, I am left to ponder Jon’s (Aegon’s) facial expression after he tells Daenerys of his newfound knowledge. After he shares with her who his parents actually were, her reaction is one I was prepared for. The Iron Throne is all she wants. If Jon was waiting for her to worry about them as a couple, he was sorely mistaken. We are related? I am your aunt? What does that mean for us? Any one of those question would have been better than,
“If it were true, it would make you the last male heir of House Targaryen. You’d have a claim to the Iron Throne.”
And here is Jon’s face:
Other facial expressions had me grinning. Gendry’s indignation when Arya asked him if he had sex with the Red Priestess, and Tormund’s smile whenever he saw Brienne, were priceless.
I knew Jamie would be safe for now, but not so sure for next week when the battle begins. Knowing the show, and its shocking deaths, I have prepared myself for the worst. Who will live, who will die. In my mind, Jon, Arya, and Tyrion, are dead. Sansa, I am not sure about. I never cared for her, but I have come to appreciate her growth as a character. Episode two did everything to pull at my heartstrings. From Sansa and Theon’s hug, to Sam giving Jorah his family’s Valyrian sword, to Jamie knighting Brienne, I found myself bracing for next week.
