Review: Series I’ve recently read

As many of you may have noticed, I haven’t done a book review in a while. In the past month and a half I’ve been on a series binge, where I finish one, and begin another. I’ve gone through three series in that space…

Review: Son of My Father by Peggy Hattendorf – 4 Stars

Right away I felt the weight of Christiana’s need for her father’s approval. The dysfunction of the family only adds to the pressure. She has only ever seen herself as an extension to the family business, to the detriment of her personal life.

Review: The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith 4 Stars

J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith, does not disappoint. Her writing style, reminiscent of her Harry Potter series, draws you in. The only negative to the story is how Cormoran pieces together the evidence of who murdered Lula. I kept reading, waiting for some clue, anything, even if it led me down a wrong direction. The fun of a mystery is to think you know who did it, but be surprised at the end. Cormoran’s thought processes on the case were never written or explained. When he arrives at his conclusion, we are not privy to how he came to arrive there.

Box Set: Singularity – The Modern Witches Series: Books 1-3 by Fabio Bueno 5 Stars #blog #Review #amreading

If reading all three books in two days doesn’t express how much I loved these books, well let me explain.

Drake stole the show. Loved his humor and his believable attitude of a high school boy.  I wished there was a Drake in my school when I was growing up. Not saying that Skye was any less lovable, in fact, all the characters were exceptionally well developed. The story is told from the POV of both Drake and Skye. Skye is on a mission to discover the Singularity, a witch of immense power. The mystery of who this witch is, is done very well. It had me guessing till the identity was revealed. At one point, I even suspected Drake of being the Singularity. The build up of the romance between Drake and Skye is set at just the right speed.
