Brant Ankar
Billionaire and Philanthropist – Brant and Associates

Fathered by an Asgardian warrior named Aienin, Brant was born on October 29, 268 A.D. His mother was a mortal woman named Kari.
Brant had lived many lives. His present one led him to New York City. A little over a year before, he arrived in the city out of necessity. The office manager, the one he hired to run the city’s subsidiary, against his better judgment at the insistence of an old friend, lacked foresight and his mismanagement nearly ruined Brant’s reputation.
Brant maintained offices in Rome, Paris, Berlin, London, and Tokyo. Brant and Associates, a worldwide conglomerate for investigative services and legal representations, handled both human and otherworldly inquiries.
Six months after his arrival, he had smoothed everything over, and things turned a corner. In his time spent in the city, Brant discovered how much he liked it. Deciding to stay was not a difficult choice. He knew plenty of people, even some dear friends nearby.
The shock of finding Elleanor lived nearby had lessened in the months since his discovery. He had no wish to see her. Still, he could not help himself in learning as much as he could about her. Assigning one of his investigators to quietly dig into her past, the man came back with a file five inches thick. The job had been difficult, but the investigator’s persistence had paid off. Through his contacts, his man was able to put a time-line together for Brant.

The Crystal Series: Creating the World of Sidhe Faeries

The Crystal Series: Creating the World of Sidhe Faeries

Early on, way before I wrote the first word on Elements (Book One of The Crystal Series), I searched high and low (mostly on Google Chrome) for a race of faeries to be central to my story.
There are many that have already been featured in novels, movies and television shows. Check out some movies on IMDb
I wanted something out of the ordinary, one where not much is known but that I could expand on.

Research

This is what I found on Wikipedia:
The aos sí ([eːs ˈʃiː], older form aes sídhe [eːs ˈʃiːðʲə]) is the Irish term for a supernatural race in Irish mythology and Scottish mythology (where it is usually spelled Sìth, but pronounced the same), comparable to the fairies or elves. They are said to live underground in fairy mounds, across the western sea, or in an invisible world that coexists with the world of humans. This world is described in the Lebor Gabála Érenn as a parallel universe in which the aos síwalk amongst the living. In the Irish language, aos sí means “people of the mounds” (the mounds are known in Irish as “the sídhe”). In Irish literature the people of the mounds are also called daoine sídhe [ˈdiːnʲə ˈʃiːə]; in Scottish mythology they are daoine sìth. They are variously said to be the ancestors, the spirits of nature, or goddesses and gods.[1]

The Crystal Series: Creating the World of Sidhe Faeries

The Sidhe sounded right to me. I crafted their island, invisible to human eyes, with lush greenery and sweeping hills, using the Isle of Skye off the coast of Scotland as a reference point. I created a backstory, most of the characters, and a visual description of their world before I began to write.

Since I needed them to interact with humans, I had to come up with a reason for them to abandon their island to coexist with us. And that is where the Kaemorra, their powerful crystal meaning sanctuary, the prophecy and the quest came from.  Deis-dé, a place of refuge that is in-between our world and theirs, developed quite by accident during my writing. Just goes to show where your characters might lead you to sometimes.

An Introduction to Breth

An Introduction to Breth- Council Member

Breth, the newly elected Council member representing all water elementals, was late for his first day on the job. As an undine, from the species mermen, he found existing out of the water and breathing air tiring. He had slept through his alarm that morning, only waking when the sun’s rays blinded him upon reaching his bed. Rushing to get ready had given him no opportunity to think about the job that lay ahead.
Dressed comfortably in blue jeans and a white T-shirt, he chose to walk, crossing over the Ponte Vecchio once leaving his small suite of rooms in the sixteenth century, recently restored building located by the Arno River. Florence, steeped in history and culture, should have impressed him, but his being there was out of necessity, not for taking in the many tourist sights.
Once he had settled into his job, he would have to find permanent lodgings, somewhere closer to a larger body of water. He needed to return to his natural habitat in order to replenish his energy. Breth had his eye on a property, but whether the old couple would part with it, he was unsure. Located on the shore of Lago di Bilancino, a little over forty minutes to the north of Florence, the quaint, terracotta-roofed, natural-stone beauty of a home had caught his eye and his interest. His offer to purchase it, for an exorbitant price, was still being mulled over.

An Introduction to Mirin

An Introduction to Mirin- Council Member

A lesser council member, Mirin controls the demon worlds. He excels at magic. Paranoid and suspicious, he feels the council is working against him.

Since when did Mirin keep track of other Council members and their staff? Even though Manaford was not inside the complex in any official capacity, he was a constant presence in the offices. If he left, where did he go, and for what purpose?  She would need to question Mirin. The demon always had a reason for getting involved in other people’s business. Ella had not had time to visit Mirin, to find out what he wanted to discuss with her. She had all but forgotten his request she meet with him. What he needed to discuss with her now seemed to be important. As for Manaford, Ella exchanged a look with Brant, both suspicious he was not who he appeared to be.
“Do you know where Mirin is now?” She asked Breth.
“He is indisposed. It’s his time for meditation.” Breth informed her.
Meditation meant Mirin was being attended to by his entourage. Their job was to feed him their energy, so he could maintain his human form. The ritual could take hours. Ella had no time to wait around for him to be available.

An Introduction to Briana

An Introduction to Briana – Council Member

Briana is a water elemental, newly elected to sit on the council. Her almost white hair, pale complexion, magnifies the green of her eyes.

A cold shiver raced up her spine, experiencing a hateful emotion coming from somewhere. Swinging around to where she felt it coming from, her gaze landed on Briana, standing in the doorway. The arrival of the elemental Council member threw Ella for a moment. Briana had that effect on people. It was difficult to see her as a living, breathing being. Her ethereal countenance lent itself to visions of celestial beings. Briana was a water sprite, a Naiad from the Lake Kournas area in Crete.
“I’m sorry, am I interrupting? Aeden said we were to meet here.” Her melodic voice was barely a whisper.
Seeing an out, Breth took the opportunity to make himself scarce by leaving the room, practically running out, deciding for himself he had nothing else to add. Ella let him go. She would find him again if she thought of anything else to ask him. As he passed Briana, who continued into the theater, Ella watched her face grow quizzical. Her head bent to the side, in Breth’s direction, her eyes downcast, while the fingers on her left hand moved as if strumming a guitar.
Ella knew the hand movement was indicative of Briana using her power to determine subterfuge or lies from those around her. She wondered what the woman detected to make her use her gift so openly. Whatever it was, it passed quickly. Her face cleared, a smile rose on her lips when she returned her attention to Ella.
