I finally binged Sneaky Pete. With Amazon not renewing the series, I am left with many questions. Where is the real Pete? Will he ever get his identity back? Will Julia get out of going to prison? Will the family lose their business? Will Taylor get his life together? When will they find out Marius is not who they think he is? The only one I am not worried about is Carly.
The premise: A con man on the run from a vicious gangster takes cover by assuming the identity of his prison cellmate, Pete, reuniting with his estranged family, that threatens to drag him into a world just as dangerous as the one he’s escaping. Image result for sneaky pete review"
Sneaky Pete achieves pretty much all it hints at from the teaser. While also being about a dysfunctional family, it’s the con that makes it so brilliant. Within the main story, there are subplots upon subplots. Not one episode is boring.
I’ve loved this series from the start. Giovanni Ribisi has been outstanding in this role. In fact, the entire cast has been exceptional. The first season, Marius had to deal with Vince Lonigan, played by Bryan Cranston, who co-created the series. I’m not giving more details. Watch the series. If the mention of Bryan Cranston doesn’t motive you, read no further.
Season two, with the return of the real Pete and his mother, sees Marius fighting for his life. More conning takes place. And, in the finale, you’re left to wonder how he’ll extricate himself from all the lies he’s told.
Season three begins where season two ended. Julia discovered con man Marius’s real identity. But that remains on the back burner as more issues overshadow the family.
The best thing about season three is how they tied up most of the loose ends. The finale was action-packed and emotional. Every episode had an impact. The addition of Efrat Dor, who plays Lizzie, as Marius’s love and con partner, gave him added layers as a character. Cold-blooded and calculating, Lizzie kept him on his toes.
I will miss this series and wish someone else to pick it up. If you haven’t seen it yet, all three seasons are available on Amazon Prime.
